RSA to Australia - a new chapter

Since we received our Permanent Resident visa (175) on the 31st March 2008, we have begun preperations for the start of a new chapter in our lives: Australia.

We thought it would be great for everyone to follow our journey to Australia, so keep watching this space as we will update it as we get a chance.

5 Weeks!

Where to start........?

The car would be as good a starting point as any I guess. The new owners of the car paid us on Wednesday, so on Thursday we went into the traffic dept & did the change of ownership. We arranged the collection time for Friday afternoon.

Before handing over the keys though we had quite a few things to do: needed to exchange our Bauer pan for a recoated one (the last one was 3yrs old & was ready to be swopped as we use it almost daily), had to replace a coffee mug from our one set – was lucky enough that Clicks still had (so bought 2 extra :) ), had to see if we could find a puzzle on request of our meet & greet – want to send it in the container, & were hoping to collect the self catering unit keys. Ran out of time though & will collect the keys on Monday after work.

Well we’ve been extremely busy cleaning and preparing everything, as Britannia’s team will be here on Tuesday to begin packing.

The garage is sorted & everything has been degreased, dusted &/or cleaned with the high-pressure cleaner. Only one large tool box left to do, it’ll have to be done early on Tuesday as we just simply ran out of time.

All the items in the house have been sorted cleaned & dried etc and is ready to go.

The bags are packed and lying all over the house (11 of them, eek!) as we needed to ensure everything that won’t fit, goes into the container. At least 120kg goes a long way so we are able to take 95% of what was in our clothing cupboards. We have even managed to take a large blanket (very light), our medicine kit, Savannah’s sleeping bag, her portable DVD player & DVD’s.

We also have allocated one of the hand luggage bags to Savannah for toys. So on her return from her sleep-over, we had to enter into negotiations as to what wasn’t packed & what she wanted added. It went rather well as we had bought 2 new small toys (already packed in the bag) that she’s been after for a while, so once she saw those, most of her objections faded :) now we are all happy!

We are both simply exhausted, we are very glad that we will have a few weeks where we can just relax & visit friends etc. After all the work preparing for this move we need a break before tackling the Aus. side of things.
