RSA to Australia - a new chapter

Since we received our Permanent Resident visa (175) on the 31st March 2008, we have begun preperations for the start of a new chapter in our lives: Australia.

We thought it would be great for everyone to follow our journey to Australia, so keep watching this space as we will update it as we get a chance.

6 Weeks to go!

Well, to say we are HECTIC is an understatement!

We have managed to sell our car & Conrad offered to do the COR(Certificate of Roadworthiness) as 2 ladies have bought it from us. It's also better for us as we will ensure that the car is off our name. So in between everything elses we need to finalise, the car needs to be sorted too!

So on Saturday after arranging signing power with the bank for my sister (another thing can be crossed of my to do list), the car went back to the roadworthy centre for it's final check, all good! Now just to set up the handover for sometime next week.

Well with only one week left before the packers arrive, we have quite a bit to do! All of our wood furniture needs to be "touched up" as customs are very fussy when it comes to wood items. So we decided to do it as we had excellent weather. So we carted all the dining suite chairs & all the coffee tables outside & Conrad varnished under all the feet & any other bare spots. We also had to do the plasma unit & dinning table, but as they are just too heavy for us to take outside (for those that don't know, we have an Ironwood sleeper dinning suite & plasma unit), we just did them inside. What a mess it made as we tipped over the table & made sure all the cracks were coated inside.

This week we need to deliver the last of the items we've sold, not too much left thank goodness! We have had a funny experience trying to sell the last of the items not going over with us. We put an ad. in the Cape Ads for the remaining items, & should just warn anyone doing the same to put " only call after 6am". We had a call for our 2nd double bed at 3am!! I mean really & to top it off we had a 2nd call at 4:30am! Anyway the 1st guy came & collected the bed just after 5:30 am. I wonder what our neighbors think? So Savannah is now camping out on our inflatable matteress, & she thinks this is just great!

Our house is looking rather bland as all our pot plants have been claimed, & delivered/collected. The trampoline will be collected next weekend, so that's also all sorted.

We have also converted all of our VHS to digital (just on our notebook for now). We have reserved a hire car for here in RSA from the 24th to the 28th June. Conrad will have to drive us all around in his company van till then :). We have also arranged travel insurance for our trip with TIC, so atleast were covered incase of any luggage mishaps.

So we are about 90% done with our preperations, with today & next week left to do the next major clean & sort: the garage.

These pics show some of what we still need to sort!
This move is becoming more "real" as we slowly cross off all the items we need to do, off our list. I think it'll really kick in when our car is gone, & we are watching our home being packed. We are all experiencing major ups & downs emotionally as we each mourn our final weeks in RSA, & start to feel a bit of excitement for what lies ahead!

Keep watching for more updates!

You will probably need a good cup of coffee once your coffee machine is packed, so come over to my place and watch the sea and sip away.
